Ann Bryan's, Minis's, Moore's Lanes, the Watering Trough, Harmony Road, D. Boal's Stable, T. M. Snyder's and on august 3rd two more, one at Hall's and one near Sam Erwin's.

In 1887 the Citizens Gas Company made an application to lay a high pressure line through the Borough, offering the following inducements, they would furnish sufficient gas to light and heat the Public School, the Lutheran Church, the Methodist Church, and one building that nowhere hereafter may be used for Borough purposes, free of charge. Nothing, however, came of this proposition.

The Enos Hill plan of lots having been recorded in Beaver, were accepted by Council February 2nd, 1889.

In May, 1891, the question of erecting a town building was discussed, also the levying of a special building tax, but this last was believed to be unnecessary. At this time ownership of Market Square had to be proven, as L. I. Berry claimed to have a lien against it, but the records showed nothing to indicate that the property did not belong to the Borough, for Borough purposes. Plans for a building 18x28x12 feet were made, having two rooms, one for council, and one for a lockup. Bids were received from Thomas Dickson in amount of $492.50 and Solomon Davis, amount $485.25. Mr. Davis being the lowest bidder was awarded the contract. The building was completed and accepted March 7th, 1891. I. W. Berger, the blacksmith, installed the lockup at the cost of $30.00, May 2nd, 1892. Mr. Romigh reported boys swimming in the river and using unbecoming language. The matter was discussed and the Secretary instructed to post notices.

In the early nineties a Baden Public Library and Recreation Association was formed by a group of young people, who held their first meeting in the Machesney home. A four room dwelling just across from the present railway station was rented, and reading and social rooms were furnished, books were loaned from a good sized library and games and social times were enjoyed. This association lasted for the several years, but March 26th, 1896, they applied to the Council for the privilege of storing their bookcase, table, chairs and books in the Council Chamber. This was granted by a motion to that effect.

June 9th, 1903, Mr. Gray moved that in view of the fact that the books of the Public Library had been stored since the year 1897, and no rental paid to the Borough, and also the association having charge of such books having no existence since the year 1897, the Council seize the books and cases for rent, and make proper disposition of the same provided such action would be legal, seconded and carried.

July 24th, 1905. Board of Directors of the Public School asked permission of Council to remove from the Council Room to the School House the books and case of the Baden Public Library Association. It was the sense of Council that no opposition to such removal be made.

An interesting item is found in the minutes of March 31st, 1894. On motion of Wm. Romigh and John Rea, two special policemen were appointed and sworn in to protect the people of Baden from the depredations of Coxey's Army, or elements that may follow it, and to
