fied brick, including entrances to all side streets and alleys, note, this included a further widening of the street to sixty feet and the setting of curbing. In addition the Borough was to receive the sum of $25,000 as fixed, liquidated and settled damages.

The next great improvement in the Borough's history was the creation and installation of a Municipal Water System, up to this time all the water supply in the Borough was from springs and wells and cisterns, and those who had running water in the homes had to install their own systems. Now in August, 1906, a contract was let to the Chandley Bros. & Company of Beaver Falls, for the erection of a Water Pump Station, installation of engines and the laying of pipes in the Borough for a Water System, also the erection of one 60,000 gallon tank on a lot in the Mellon Plan, and the drilling of wells both in the Borough and on the shores of the island opposite the Pump Station.

At this time, that is , while the Water System was being installed, plans were also made for a complete general and sanitary sewer system, Ordinance No. 45 was passed for this purpose. May 20th, J. L. Conner of Freedom was awarded a contract for laying sewers across all intersecting streets along State Street, the remainder of the sewer system was installed by Thomas Sweeny company of Pittsburgh, at a contract price of $10,545.50.

At a meeting of Council held December 10th, 1906, a warrant was drawn in favor of D. L. Ehrman for $33.50, being for 7 perch of stone for a watering tough in Tevebaugh Hollow and water furnished for six years at $5.00 per year, 1901 to 1906 inclusive.

February 4th, 1907. An Ordinance regulating the speed of motor vehicles on Borough streets. Speed limits 10 miles per hour, except on State Street, where the limit was 8 miles per hour, (perhaps on account of the greater amount of traffic) and the fine was $10.00 to $25.00 or ten days in the lockup.

December 30th, 1907, Council received a petition from 22 residents of Bryan Avenue for a boardwalk on the southeastern side of said avenue, same was duly erected. at the same time D. Boal, president of council, appointed a committee of citizens, 30 in number, to organize a volunteer fire department. Organization followed, and on September 21st, the sum of $360.00 was appropriated for construction of a building to house the Volunteer Fire Department's equipment, consisting of two hand hose carts, hose and other apparatus, and to serve them a as meeting place.

In 1912 a unique advertising was used to call the attention of the public to the many advantages offered by Baden on the Ohio, 21,400 envelopes, electrotyped with descriptive literature and a map showing the location of Baden, were sold to the citizens of Baden.

Schiller Street Extension, a strip of land 50 feet wide and 1300 feet long, was presented to the Borough by C. F. Straube and wife, July 9th, 1909; this street running from Forest street to the Tevebaugh Run Road.
