BADEN METHODIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH
1858 to 1938
Beginnings. The Stover Chapel Methodist Episcopal Church, the first church in Baden, was organized by the Rev. Thomas Storer in 1858 as a "point" or appointment on the Freedom Circuit. At or near that time the Freedom circuit consisted of the congregations at Freedom, Concord, Baden, Slippery Rock, Plains, Unionville, Lancaster, and Zelienople. Two preachers were appointed to the circuit until 1862, when it was divided. Stover Chapel remained a part of the circuit until 1892, when it appears in the Conference Minutes as "Baden" with a pastor of its own. The records up to that time are now in the possession of Freedom Church.
