Baden's First 100 YearsPage Forty
Rev. Thomas Bryson, who was chaplain to the Sisters and the boys at Mt. Gallitzen academy, was appointed by Most Rev. Regis Cenevin, Bishop of Pittsburgh diocese, the first resident Pastor of St. John the Baptist Parish in the year 1908. He served the parish faithfully till the year 1919, after which time he was succeeded by Rev. James O'Connell whose tenure of office was less than a year. Rev. Thomas Dunn, the next appointed chaplain to the Academy and pastor to the parish, was untiring in his efforts towards and zeal for the salvation of souls. Father Dunn remained at this post of duty from the year 1920 till 1935, succeeded in turn by Rev. Raymond Foster, February, 1935. In the interim, Baden witnessed a growing population and numbered among its inhabitants were members of St. John's Parish. The parish limits extend from Conway Public School to the bridge at Beyersdale, from the river through Economy Township for a distance of eight miles.
